Al-Baqarah 2:255
Al-Baqarah 2:255 — The Greatest Verse of the Quran
Allahu lā ilāhe illā huve'l-Hayyü'l-Kayyūm. Lā te'huzühū sinetün ve lā nevm. Lehū mā fi's-semāvāti ve mā fi'l-ard. Men ze'l-lezī yeşfe'u 'indehū illā bi-iznih.
Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is presently before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
Ayat al-Kursi (The Throne Verse) is verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah and is widely regarded as the greatest verse in the Quran. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated that this verse is the peak of Surah Al-Baqarah, the master of the Quran. It is a magnificent declaration of the Oneness of Allah, describing His living eternal nature, all-encompassing knowledge, and absolute sovereignty over the heavens and the earth.
“Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing stands between him and Paradise except death.”
Sahih al-Bukhari, Nasai
“When you go to bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi; Allah will appoint a guardian over you and no devil will come near you until morning.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 2311
“The master of the Quran is Surah al-Baqarah, and its peak is Ayat al-Kursi.”
Musnad Ahmad, Tabarani
