إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ

Actions are but by intentions.

الْإِسْلَامُ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَالْإِيمَانُ أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ، وَالْإِحْسَانُ أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ

Islam is to testify there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger. Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, books, messengers, and the Last Day. Ihsan is to worship Allah as though you see Him.

بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ

Islam is built on five pillars: testifying, prayer, zakat, Hajj, and fasting Ramadan.

إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يُجْمَعُ خَلْقُهُ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا نُطْفَةً، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ عَلَقَةً مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ مُضْغَةً مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ يُبْعَثُ إِلَيْهِ الْمَلَكُ فَيُنْفَخُ فِيهِ الرُّوحُ

Each of you is formed in the womb as a drop for forty days, then a clot, then a piece of flesh. Then an angel is sent to breathe the soul into it.

مَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِي أَمْرِنَا هَذَا مَا لَيْسَ مِنْهُ فَهُوَ رَدٌّ

Whoever introduces something into this affair of ours that does not belong to it, it is rejected.

الْحَلَالُ بَيِّنٌ وَالْحَرَامُ بَيِّنٌ، وَبَيْنَهُمَا أُمُورٌ مُشْتَبِهَاتٌ لَا يَعْلَمُهُنَّ كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ

The halal is clear and the haram is clear. Between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever avoids them has protected his religion and honour.

الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَة

Religion is sincere counsel.

مَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ، وَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ

Whatever I have forbidden you, avoid it; whatever I have commanded you, do it to the best of your ability.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ طَيِّبٌ لَا يَقْبَلُ إِلَّا طَيِّبًا

Allah is pure and accepts only what is pure.

دَعْ مَا يَرِيبُكَ إِلَى مَا لَا يَرِيبُكَ

Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt.

مِنْ حُسْنِ إِسْلامِ المَرْءِ تَرْكُهُ مَا لاَ يَعْنِيهِ

Part of the perfection of one's Islam is leaving what does not concern him.

لَا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لِأَخِيهِ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ

None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.

Enes b. Malik (r.a.)Buhari 13, Müslim 45 — Nevevî 13

لَا يَحِلُّ دَمُ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَّا بِإِحْدَى ثَلَاثٍ: الثَّيِّبُ الزَّانِي، وَالنَّفْسُ بِالنَّفْسِ، وَالتَّارِكُ لِدِينِهِ الْمُفَارِقُ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ

The blood of a Muslim is not lawful except in one of three cases: the married adulterer, a life for a life, and one who abandons his religion.

مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ

Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent.

لَا تَغْضَبْ

Do not become angry.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الْإِحْسَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

Allah has prescribed excellence (ihsan) in everything.

اتَّقِ اللَّهَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ، وَأَتْبِعِ السَّيِّئَةَ الْحَسَنَةَ تَمْحُهَا

Fear Allah wherever you are; follow a bad deed with a good one to erase it.

احْفَظِ اللَّهَ يَحْفَظْكَ، احْفَظِ اللَّهَ تَجِدْهُ تُجَاهَكَ

Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you.

إِذَا لَمْ تَسْتَحِ فَاصْنَعْ مَا شِئْتَ

If you have no shame, do as you wish.

قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ

Say: 'I believe in Allah' — then stand firm.

الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الْإِيمَانِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ تَمْلَأُ الْمِيزَانَ، وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ تَمْلَآَنِ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

Purity is half of faith. Alhamdulillah fills the scales. Subhanallah and Alhamdulillah fill what is between the heavens and the earth.

Ebu Malik el-Eş'ari (r.a.)Müslim 223 — Nevevî 23

يَا عِبَادِي إِنِّي حَرَّمْتُ الظُّلْمَ عَلَى نَفْسِي وَجَعَلْتُهُ بَيْنَكُمْ مُحَرَّمًا فَلَا تَظَالَمُوا

O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and made it forbidden among you. So do not oppress one another.

Ebu Zer el-Gıfari (r.a.)Müslim 2577 — Nevevî 24

كُلُّ سُلَامَى مِنَ النَّاسِ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ تَطْلُعُ فِيهِ الشَّمْسُ، وَالْكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ صَدَقَةٌ

Every joint of the body must perform a charity every day the sun rises. A kind word is charity.

كُلُّ مَعْرُوفٍ صَدَقَةٌ

Every act of kindness is charity.

الْبِرُّ حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ، وَالْإِثْمُ مَا حَاكَ فِي صَدْرِكَ وَكَرِهْتَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ

Righteousness is good character. Sin is what gnaws at your soul and you dislike people knowing about it.

Nevvas b. Sem'an (r.a.)Müslim 2553 — Nevevî 27

عَلَيْكُمْ بِسُنَّتِي وَسُنَّةِ الْخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، تَمَسَّكُوا بِهَا وَعَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ

Hold fast to my Sunnah and the way of the rightly-guided caliphs; cling to it and bite onto it with your molar teeth.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَدَّ حُدُودًا فَلَا تَعْتَدُوهَا، وَفَرَضَ فَرَائِضَ فَلَا تُضَيِّعُوهَا، وَحَرَّمَ أَشْيَاءَ فَلَا تَنْتَهِكُوهَا

Allah has set limits, so do not transgress them; He has imposed duties, so do not neglect them; He has forbidden things, so do not violate them.

Ebu Sa'lebe el-Huşeni (r.a.)Darekutni — Nevevî 30

ازْهَدْ فِي الدُّنْيَا يُحِبَّكَ اللَّهُ، وَازْهَدْ فِيمَا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ يُحِبَّكَ النَّاسُ

Renounce the world and Allah will love you; renounce what people possess and people will love you.

لَا ضَرَرَ وَلَا ضِرَارَ

There shall be no harm and no reciprocation of harm.

مَنْ رَأَى مِنْكُمْ مُنْكَرًا فَلْيُغَيِّرْهُ بِيَدِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِلِسَانِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِقَلْبِهِ، وَذَلِكَ أَضْعَفُ الْإِيمَانِ

Whoever sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.

لَا تَحَاسَدُوا وَلَا تَنَاجَشُوا وَلَا تَبَاغَضُوا وَلَا تَدَابَرُوا، وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا

Do not envy one another, do not bid against one another, do not hate one another, do not turn away from one another. Be brothers, O servants of Allah.

Ebu Hureyre (r.a.)Buhari 6064, Müslim 2559 — Nevevî 35

مَنْ نَفَّسَ عَنْ مُؤْمِنٍ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ الدُّنْيَا، نَفَّسَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

Whoever relieves a believer of a distress of this world, Allah will relieve him of a distress on the Day of Resurrection.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَالسَّيِّئَاتِ، فَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً

Allah has written down good and evil deeds. Whoever intends a good deed but does not do it, Allah records it as one complete good deed.

الْمُؤْمِنُ الَّذِي يُخَالِطُ النَّاسَ وَيَصْبِرُ عَلَى أَذَاهُمْ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا مِنَ الَّذِي لَا يُخَالِطُ النَّاسَ

The believer who mingles with people and bears their harm patiently earns a greater reward than the believer who does not mingle with people.

خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِهِ وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِي

The best of you is the one who is best to his family, and I am the best of you to my family.

الْجَنَّةُ تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِ الْأُمَّهَاتِ

Paradise lies at the feet of mothers.

Muaviye b. Cahime (r.a.)Nesai 3104

انْصُرْ أَخَاكَ ظَالِمًا أَوْ مَظْلُومًا

Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or the oppressed.

Enes b. Malik (r.a.)Buhari 2444

طَلَبُ الْعِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ

Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.

مَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا يَلْتَمِسُ فِيهِ عِلْمًا سَهَّلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِهِ طَرِيقًا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ

Whoever treads a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make easy for him the path to Paradise.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ رَفِيقٌ يُحِبُّ الرِّفْقَ فِي الْأَمْرِ كُلِّهِ

Allah is gentle and loves gentleness in all affairs.

الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands other Muslims are safe.
