The final divine revelation to humanity โ unchanged for over 1400 years
The Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ beginning in 610 CE in the Cave of Hira, continuing over 23 years. It was preserved by companions through both memorization and writing. During the caliphate of Uthman, a standardized copy was compiled. Today millions of huffaz worldwide have the entire Quran memorized โ a unique miracle of preservation unmatched in human history.
The Quran consists of 114 surahs: from Al-Fatiha to An-Nas. The longest surah is Al-Baqarah with 286 verses, while the shortest are Al-Kawthar and Al-Asr with only 3 verses each. The Quran is also divided into 30 equal parts (juz), a division designed to facilitate memorization and recitation. Each surah forms a coherent whole containing interconnected messages.
The Quran's main themes include: Tawhid (oneness of God and complete submission to Him), moral guidance and justice for humanity, stories of the prophets (25 are mentioned by name), the afterlife and Day of Judgment, ethics and social justice, and worship through prayer. These themes are interwoven and speak to readers on multiple levels.
The Quran addresses all of humanity regardless of race, nationality, or era. Verses beginning with 'O mankind!' contain a universal invitation. While preserved in its original Arabic, the Quran has been translated into hundreds of languages, touching the lives of millions across every culture. Translations are considered interpretations (Ma'al), not the Quran itself โ for the full richness of the divine word exists only in Arabic.
